The new Livebox 6 was designed to provide “even better connectivity and up to 2 Gbps throughput, while being easy to use, having limited environmental impact and boasting a design motivated by performance,” says Thomas Gosselin, Program Manager at Orange.
Its shell is made from 100% recycled and recyclable plastic, its packaging is made from recycled cardboard from sustainably managed forests, and its compact, vertical design provides it with natural ventilation. These features are part and parcel of an eco-design approach that aims to achieve Net Zero Carbon emissions by 2040.
With its Wi-Fi 6E, the Livebox 6 offers throughput of up to 2 Gbps, far higher than current levels.

Livebox 6 was designed to make installation simpler. The touchscreen allows you to follow the setup steps and easily link your smartphone by scanning a QR code with your phone’s camera. The screen also lets you use QR codes to check service status, perform a speed test, or access advanced features in the Orange et moi application, creating seamless continuity between the Livebox 6, your smartphone, and the Orange et moi app.
Designed to Minimize Impact on the Environment
Aside from its casing, which is made from 100% recycled and recyclable plastics and materials, the project team developed a standby function that can be activated directly from the Livebox 6 screen or scheduled via the Orange et moi app. Light sleep mode keeps only telephony running to reduce power consumption by 25%, while deep sleep cuts consumption by at least 85%.
To reduce energy consumption, the display uses low-power E-ink technology. It consumes no power when displaying static information, drawing energy only when the screen refreshes.
Super-Fast Connectivity with Wi-Fi 6E
Another reason the box is so innovative is its high-performance Wi-Fi connectivity. When Wi-Fi 5 rolled out in 2015, Orange was already advocating within the Wi-Fi Alliance for a new standard—one that would accommodate the growing number of users, connected devices, and simultaneous activities in the home.
Livebox 6 brings users not just Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), but Wi-Fi 6E (“E” for “extended”). This new standard has the advantage of operating across the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands, as well as the 6 GHz band, which the French government opened up on December 1, 2021. Wi-Fi 6E significantly reduces network congestion during simultaneous use and in high-traffic environments.
The result is faster Wi-Fi even during peak simultaneous use, quicker load times, and lower latency for online gaming and video calls. These experiences are virtually lag-free thanks to intelligent Wi-Fi, which automatically manages connections and optimizes frequency bands in real time.
